Breeze considers a future scenario in which extreme heat and humidity will impact health and wellbeing in parts of the world in 2041. Up to 3 billion people could be living in areas as hot as the Sahara within the next 50 years. Furthermore, the number of dangerously hot and humid days per year could increase by 10,000% across some parts of the tropics. These stats are indicative of a huge potential impact on these regions and without aid could result in widespread displacement and forced emigration. To ensure that the inhabitants of these regions can retain outdoor jobs and lifestyles, we proposed a solution based on future technological advancements; using dehumidification, thermoelectric cooling, and advanced fabrics, all developed and embodied in a torso suit called ‘breeze’. These functionalities were aimed at facilitating cool and comfortable working conditions even in the most affected areas of the globe. To create the initial design, an in-depth contextual study of the future environment and technological availability was carried out. This design was then refined and developed using both user research and further technological findings. Validation calculations ensured the solution was capable of fulfilling the heat loss requirements. The completion of our project is demonstrated in digital embodiments that show an external view of the full suit, and internal exploded views of the system's many sub-operations. Our process involved several interviews with professors and those in industry to guide our work, and it ended with validation and predictions for the evolution of the product up to and beyond the year 2041, where we saw potential modification for adoption into avenues such as the fashion industry.
